or am i better off using typical household cleaning products like lysol etc?

I am not sure what green products you are referring to, but I can tell you a green product is a steam cleaner. It uses water and creates heat to sanitize and clean your home. The only way it is not green is I guess it uses electricity. I would be careful using that steam cleaner on a wood floor, but it depends on the type of wood floor. Everything else you can definitely steam. We sell them at http://www.redsticksales.com. A good steam cleaner will run you 369-1700 dollars. Sorry, but Chinese as seen on TV steam cleaners do not get over 200 degrees and do not hold enough water or pressure. They are TOYS not steam cleaners. Italian made steam cleaners are the machine you want to buy.
