I often use vinegar for carpets.
Just a little vinegar on a old cloth, this refreshens the colors of carpets and makes it shine again.
When there are stains I work with salt. I make it a little bit wet, work it in with a brush and let it there until it is completly dry. then I hover it.

I haven’t heard of it. I’m also a proffesional carpet cleaner. If you have a spot to clean up I recommend going to carpet-rug.org and look at the approved chemicals section. Look for spot cleaners and use one on the list. They have been tested for resoiling and cleaning performance. Over half of the spot cleaners on the shelf have been proven to not clean better than water. These approved cleaners on the list will do the trick.
If you are trying to clean all of the carpet in your home I would definitely hire a proffessional. In my opinion there is nothing like having a real cleaner come and do the job. I would recommend going to certifiedcleaners.org to find a certified firm in your area to perform the cleaning. Certified firms are held to the highest standards in carpet cleaning in addition they don’t do any bait and switch tacticts. They must also take care of any complaints and usually any good carpet cleaner will offer a satisfaction guaranteed or your money back/clean it again etc. We go to school to learn to clean carpet properly. Also if you want them to use a “green” cleaning agent I would bring that up when you call. There are many green cleaning products out there that do the trick.
In my opinion I don’t see why anyone would want to rent a rug doctor and spend days cleaning their carpet. I believe it’s 40 bucks to rent and probably take you 2-3 days to clean 1,000 ft. Then top it off with all the lost time you had. What is your time worth to you. A professional cleaner can do about 1000 ft in 3-4 hours if done right. Stanley steamers ususally clean that in about 45 min so you can see they don’t do it properly. My guess is you would be looking at around 240 bucks to 500 for that ammount of area depending on your cost of living in the area. And trust me you can not get the same results with a rug doctor or any wal-mart cleaning machine you would buy. You can’t get 200+ degree water. You can’t get 4-500 psi (rug doctor is at 40 psi) and 3 gallons per minute of water….in other words you can’t rinse like a truck. In addition achieve dry times under 6 hours. I personally have dry times from 2-6 hours depending on farbric type. Some companies have a guaranteed dry when we leave policy. And yes we can do it and no it don’t take hours…by the time we shut the truck off we can finish the last section of dryng in 10 minutes….just the right ammount of time to pack our truck back up. If you have any questions let me know..
