Investing in alternative energies, or “green energy” may seem like the only bright spot on the investment horizon. As stories circulate about peak oil and the prospect of running out of fossil fuel, alternative energy investing seems to make good sense. But here are a few things you need to consider before converting your entire portfolio into alternative fuels.

The wind and solar energy industry is still relatively young and capital-intensive. A lot of research and development is still necessary create products and delivery systems that will be affordable to consumers. When researching new companies to invest in, it’s important to determine whether or not they are sufficiently capitalized for the long term. Many new alternative energy companies were started within the past few years in response to the high cost of oil But as oil prices decline to more affordable levels, the demand for alternative energy softens, and some of these newer alternative energy companies are finding themselves with cash flow problems.

This means that due diligence before investing is just as important in the alternative fuel sector as it is in any other sector. Recently there seems to have been a misconception that any stock that was “alternative” or “green” was a sure winner. That’s simply not true. A strong balance sheet and healthy cash flow is as important as ever. Maybe more so, due to the volatility in the energy markets right now and for the next few decades.

It also makes good business sense to remember that most alternative energy companies are start-ups without long tracks records of success. That simply means that they are inherently higher-risk than established companies, no matter how attractive the thought of “green” energy may be. So treat them as you would any higher-risk growth stocks in terms of our overall portfolio strategy.

A good way to invest in alterative fuels if you are philosophically motivated in that direction, yet sill mitigate some of the risk is to invest in established energy companies that are expanding into the alternative fuels sector. Although the thought of investing in one of the major oil companies may not appear to be very “green” on the surface, the fact is that they are actively participating in the research and development of alternative fuels as well. So finding the existing energy companies that are putting the most effort and resources into providing viable alternatives in the near future may be the smartest way to safely invest in alternative fuels right now.

Article by Dave Richard

Recently, I attended an Alternative Energy Convention – one of many I attended over the last few years. It seems like these type of conventions are getting more and longer every month. My opinion is that that these conventions are held so often nowadays because the Global Warming Crisis that we are facing is growing more rapidly than scientists initially anticipated.

What worries me is that at all these conventions, the “clever” people and the “powers-that-be” agree that our needs (and “wants”) are outpacing what Mother Earth can provide. They all agree that we must look into initiatives to generated cleaner, greener alternative energy sources. Some of them had ideas of using currents in the ocean, some agree that the wind is the answer and some look at the sun. The truth is that most of them went back home in there energy-thirsty 4-track vehicles, not to ever think of their noble ideas again.

A attend these conventions because I am an engineer in appliances that generatate sustainable alternative energy for big corporations – even in the oil industry. I asked many times, but not once did I get a turn to speak or to air my opinion at a convention. You see, I’m not a scientist, politician, or a chairman of an organization that wants to save the earth – I’m merely a person with an interest in doing what these meetings are called for – that is generating alternative energy.

What these “know-alls-but-do-nothings” do not realize is that alternative energy is not only limited to corporations, but that the small guy, the individual, can also contribute. The challenge is to “school” people and to promote the idea. It is not just about driving hybrid cars, and doing recycling – it is more about our own efforts to “whip” the energy, oil, and manufacturing industry (I’m convinced that many of these conventions are held by them, anyway).

Well, I already decided a few years ago that “charity” begins at home and I started to research small-sized appliances of generating alternative energy – something that any family can afford. My research lead me to the Internet and I was pleasantly surprized that many websites provide resources that teach you how to build your own appliances to generate alternative energy.

However….Since I began with my quest to find an inexpensive solution all those years ago, I’ve been through literally every emotion imaginable – frustration… anger… jubilation! Eventually, and after a lot of hard work, I did filter out the best resources on the Internet and ever since then I’m generating enough energy to go ‘off-grid’ – that’s right I “whipped” the energy company – they’re not getting a dime from me anymore. Now, all of a sudden, I’m also “smart” enough to be invited as guest speaker at conventions and seminars about alternative energy!

See, nowadays, trying to find the resources to make your own energy is difficult because there are so many guides, videos, and websites on the market to choose from and unless you have the time and money to test them out, you’re basically going to go round in circles….and potentially lose a lot of money.

Added to my quest to “go green”, I’m saving 00s a year on energy bills! In the last year or two I focussed on small-sized energy saving appliances for the average household. I’m also often asked to do reviews of products and training material about this subject.

I came to realize that “charity” realy starts at home, and that home is Earth. I also believe that we shouldn’t look or drill deep down into a hole to find our energy – let’s look up – after all the sun has enough sustainable energy to shine on all of us.

With more and more attention being drawn to the negative effects of global warming, renewable and alternative energy systems have become the topic for numerous discussions and debates. This is seen as a positive step by most people but the question is regarding whether or not the topic of alternative energy systems is a mere fad that may be trendy today but forgotten by tomorrow.

These systems are usually created with the objective of making environment-friendly energy systems which are cost effective and efficient. Keeping these objectives in mind would be vital and the reason for alternative energy systems not gaining much popularity earlier on could have been due to the fact that most of these systems tend to be quite expensive.

The use of carbon fuels has resulted in increased carbon dioxide emissions which have caused many problems related to environmental pollution. Furthermore as all of us know use of fossil fuels is not sustainable. Over time, though it may take thousands of years, these resources would be exhausted due to the high demand for them. It appears that time has come to say goodbye to petroleum fuels and coal. Alternative energy systems are the need of the hour.

The main problem is that there is so much confusion regarding alternative energy systems. Some might be surprised to know that there does not appear to be a single accepted definition for the word and this has created a situation where most people don’t actually know what forms of energy could actually be classified as alternative energy systems. For example at times nuclear energy is classified under alternative energy but some consider this to be inappropriate.

Wind, solar and hydro power are some of the most popular forms of alternative energy. Numerous others have also made it in to the list recently so there is a huge choice of alternative energy systems available to anyone interested in investing in such a system. Architects and engineers now take use of these systems to design more environmentally friendly buildings and this could be seen as an important step in incorporating alternative energy systems in everyday life.

The initial cost of investing in such systems tend to be quite high but it should be kept in mind that long term benefits that would come about due to investment in alternative energy systems should also be taken into account. A greener future is likely to be a better one for all inhabitants of planet earth.

Alternative Energy for the Home

The trend toward homes that are powered by alternative energy sources, ranging from wind turbines and solar collection cells to hydrogen fuel cells and biomass gases, is one that needs to continue into the 21st century and beyond. There is a great need for alternative energy for the home; we need to become more energy independent, and not having to rely on the supplying of fossil fuels from unstable nations who are often hostile to us and our interests. But even beyond this factor, individuals need stop being so reliant on government-lobbying giant oil corporations who have a stranglehold on people when it comes to heating their homes (and if not through oil, then heat usually supplied by grid-driven electricity, another stranglehold). Alternative energy for the home can establish some independence from these corporations.Inevitably, the growth of distributed generation will lead to the restructuring of the retail electricity market and the generation, transmission and distribution infrastructure. Alternative energy for the home may cause power providers to diversify their business to make up for revenues lost through household energy. This trend is being driven by ever-more government recommendation and sometimes backing of alternative energy research and development, the rising cost of oil and other fossil fuels, concern about environmental degradation, and desires to be energy independent. Assuming traditional energy prices remain at their current level or rise, micro generation (meeting all of one’s home’s energy needs by installing alternative energy technology such as solar panels or wind turbines) will become to home energy supply what the Internet became to home communications and data gathering, and eventually this will have deep effects on the businesses of the existing energy supply companies. Alternative energy for the home has energy companies themselves jumping into the game and seeks to leverage micro generation to their own advantage for opening up new markets for themselves. Electricity companies (in the UK) reporting that they are seriously researching and developing ideas for new geothermal energy facilities, as these companies see geothermal energy production as a highly profitable wave of the future. Solar energy hot water heating technology is an efficient technology for reducing home water heating costs in the long run, although it is initially quite expensive to install. However, solar power is not yet cost-effective for corporations, as they require too much in the way of specialized plumbing to implement solar energy hot water heating. Lastly, installing wind turbines is an efficient way of reducing home electricity costs, while also being more independent. However, again this is initially a very expensive thing to have installed, and companies would do well to begin slashing their prices on these devices or they could find themselves losing market share. There are small steps we can do ourselves right now and not wait for the major corporations.

Article by Parry P

Investing in Alternative Energy Stocks

Alternative energy stock portfolios are a great part of a modern investor’s financial plan, due to the fac that there is so much upward potential. These make excellent long term growth investment vehicles, and the money put into them by you, the investor, serves to further the cause of implementing the alternative energy power sources that we need as we sail into the 21st century and beyond.

Analysts predict that by 2013, the alternative energy industry will be a billion dollar industry in today’s dollars. This figure bespeaks an enormous return on investment. Indeed, if you were to invest in a start-up alternative energy company, you might find yourself having invested in the next Microsoft in terms of return on investment. People are fed up with the rising costs of gasoline-while this alone is not sufficient understanding of the need for developing alternative energy sources, it is a factor which can act as a market maker-meaning for you that investments in alternative energy companies makes a lot of financial sense.

However, this does not mean that you don’t first want to do some careful research into alternative energy stocks, perhaps with the help of a financial planner. “A few alternative-energy companies are going after the right markets but that doesn’t mean you should go buy every name in the sector. Investors need to be cautious about chasing the stocks,” says Sanjay Shrestha, who is an analyst at First Albany Capital. And if you are an investor, then you know that the problem in this sector is that nearly every single one of the major players in the alternative energy for profit game are start-ups or in the very early stages of growth. This means for you that they have relatively minuscule (even if rapidly growing) sales, and no expected profitability in the near term or history of earnings for you to be able to research. This can lead to some bubbling, as with what happened to the dot-com industry at the turn of the 21st century. Bubbling in the stock market is not a good thing for investors.

Ananlysts and financial planners can play a crucial role in helping you get it right with alternative energy investing. “We don’t play around in the tiny cap stocks that have technology and not much revenue-the ‘hope’ stocks. We invest in companies with clear cash-generation plans in place,” are the words of Ben walker, who is a senior portfolio manager at the Gartmore Global Utilities fund out of London.

Still, the outlook is very positive overall-and healthy. “It is good to see that the number of renewable energy funds and the amount of money flowing into these funds is increasing,” according to chief executive of UK alternative elecricity supplier Good Energy Juliet Davenport. “The renewable generation market is at an important stage in its development; it needs the continued support of the consumer, investor and government to ensure that it reaches its potential and really starts to make a difference to climate change.”

When you are an us citizen, you may have the right to some energy options and giving your opinion in the matter. Your viewpoint doesn?t mean anything at all if you do not vocalize your feelings and take some action. You will find that there are many supporting alternative energies that will change lives.

There are lots of steps that you will need to complete to get involved with alternative energy endorsements and you will discover that you?re going to have to voice your opinion all of the country. You will want to show your support by helping clean up your environment and by setting a good example together with your children and the community by taking care of the environment.

You will want to make sure that you support the alternative energies by looking to put it to use and fighting to have it available to you. The easiest way to support renewable energy is to use it. While this is not possible on large scales for everyone, alternative energy inarguably begins in the home-what good is it to be vocally against the using oil if you are using gallons from it every day without giving it a second thought? Also, with regards to building you will need to make sure that you think green.

When you build environmental friendly, consider utilizing installation, but also building using the environment in mind. If you can’t run your house purely on renewable energy, consider using renewable energy for part of your power supply. Small home kits are for sale to produce solar, water, and wind power for some of your home?s appliances.

You may even want to think about simply using less energy. Like, you can use the sun to dry your clothing in the summer to be able to save some energy and help the environment.
Natural resources of fossil fuels are diminishing at an very fast rate and we are all aware that something needs to be done!! A lot of people have decided to produce their own energy & governments and environmentalists are warning people that something needs to be done to keep up with this demand. People are looking at the advantages of renewable energy and whether it is a source of power that they are able to utilize and start a DIY alternative energy project around the home.

Fossil fuel energy production equals a bad result for the environment . A direct correlation exists between the use of fossil fuels to provide energy and Global Warming. We are all starting to see the effects of global warming increase, with changing weather patterns, and an increase in violent storms, including hurricanes, heat waves and droughts.

If you are looking for some education on the result of global warming go your local video store and rent a copy of ?An Inconvenient Truth?. You may be surprised, however I can assure you after watching this you will be thinking about a DIY alternative energy project to incorporate a from of renewable energy around your home, weather that be when building a new home or incorporating into your existing home design, to make your house more energy efficient.

The true bonus to the implementation of a renewable energy source for your DIY alternate energy project is that green renewable energy usually carries a very low carbon footprint . Because of this many, people are getting on the renewable bandwagon and choosing to use renewable energy sources such as solar power, wind power and geothermal energy, & in many in a DIY format.

In the USA and for that matter acrosss the world Governments are making alternate energy sources more affordable with Grants. There are currently federal tax credits available for people who install a solar power alternate energy system .

By making renewable energy more affordable, people are more willing to install renewable energy technology to protect the environment from further global warming if it is within their reach. Those people who choose to install renewable energy are often those same people that promote green communities. Many of these communities combine their collective efforts to work hard at being environmentally conscious citizens, and do what they can to combat global warming .

Green cities promote environmental policies to cut down on pollution and damage to the environment. Every year, National Geographic produces the Green Guide. Will your city be listed in the Green Guide this year?

The advantages of DIY alternate Energy in your home could fill a book . there are however disadvantages as well disadvantages as well. The cost can be the biggest drawback . What better reason to start your own DIY alternative energy project and take advantage of the tax and government grant benefits in your area. Although this is now becoming more affordable as a DIY project, or utilizing the govt rebates available in the USA & Australia & across the globe!

Alternative sources of power are generally Eco-friendly and also help to improve the natural environment since these energy sources don’t produce harmful pollutants like conventional manufacture of electrical power. Furthermore, the renewable energy resources make use of inexhaustible supplies of energy and help in conserving rare natural assets. Following are some of the sustainable energy options and their benefits.

To start with let us look at the age old use of wind for a source of energy given that that has been used for generations. This source of energy harnesses rapid movements of air flow to actuate turbine blades. The resulting rotational power is then transformed into usable power with the aid of electric powered generators. In the past, windmills were quite popular which converted mechanical motion of the blades into physical energy for crushing grain and also water pumping.

One of the main disadvantages of wind power is due to variance in the flow of wind and this results in an unpredictable flow of power. A further downside is that this form of energy doesn’t have storage capability for later use.

Solar energy power is an alternative source of renewable energy harnessing the sun’s power for powering a number of appliances and is popular for home interior heating and also cooking. The energy from the sun rays can be changed into electrical power. Just a basic process of allowing sunlight in the room to generate warmth is actually a passive type of this type of energy.

There are a couple of major disadvantages when it comes to using solar energy. It can not be generated either during night time or on cloudy days. Another considerable concern is the fact that construction of huge solar power panels requires big initial expense; as a result the general public stay away from making use of this energy.

Geothermal means heat of the earth. Geothermal alternative resources utilize the heat stored beneath the surface of the earth. Molten-hot subterranean bedrock heats underground water to produce steam. Then this high-pressure steam is released via drilled openings in large quantities to operate huge generators.

The main disadvantages when using geothermal power is that if the process of generating energy isn’t carried properly, the production of geothermal power creates dangerous toxins which resulted in release of dangerous fumes and mineral discharge. Another problem is that the energy obtained from geothermal energy sites is restricted to depletion of steam.

Hydroelectric energy has been used as a resource of power for hundreds of years. Hydro electricity uses water power to drive turbines and electrical generators and works like other alternative resources. This kind of energy is actually harnessed from dammed water. Electrical turbine generators are driven with the gravitational pull of flowing water. To be able to store water for future use, hydro generators could also be used to run in reverse.

The principle disadvantage with this particular form of energy is the fact that It is very expensive to construct hydro dams. You will find substantial limitations since this kind of energy can’t be harnessed in locations with inadequate powerful availability of water.

The Tesla Fuelless Generator however is unusual in that it had been developed over one hundred years ago and yet has only recently been developed into a practical renewable energy resource. By using a Tesla Fuelless Generator to convert your home into alternative energy home is an eco-friendly as well as extremely cost-efficient choice. Tesla electric generators overcome all the down sides of other alternative sources of energy.

These user friendly compact electric generators may be built in under 100 dollars and can generate up to 4.5 mega watts of energy. That is sufficient for you to power the complete alternative energy home continuously with extra spare electricity.

A person can put together all of the essential components of these powerful generators into a completely functional device in less than an hour or so. Additionally, the government pays a rebate to the end user for generating excess electrical power. Which is another significant benefit of using these electric generators.

Finally, these small Tesla generators use up very little space and are light in weight so that they can be easily carried along on hiking or trekking trips. Now there is no need to waste precious natural resources and money. Construct your personal Tesla Energy Generator with minimum budget and take pride in conserving money as well as natural resources.

Article by James Elliott

With the steady depletion of traditional energy resources, different forms of alternative energy sources are gaining ground. It?s no wonder that solar energy, wind energy, geothermal energy, tidal energy, hydroelectric energy, biofuel, and nuclear energy are offering a solution to meet the energy needs of both households and industries.

Why alternative energy sources are becoming popular ? Since alternative energy resources are mostly renewable, they ensure a steady supply of energy to meet the present and future needs of people. This makes these resources cheaper than the traditional ones, which come at a steep price tag mainly due their limited availability and fast depleting reserves.

So, by using the renewable energy of the sun, wind, tides, biomass, etc., you can cut down on your power bills significantly. Since they produce clean energy sans pollution, using such resources is also a great way to go green and reduce your carbon footprint.

As alternative energy sources are environment friendly, people using the same won?t need to bear any additional cost for complying with environmental regulations that are likely to get implemented in the future.

Advantages of alternative energy sources ? Thanks to their abundant supply for mass use, these resources won?t run out like oil or fossil fuels. Unlike the fluctuating prices of oil and natural gas, they are likely to have a constant and stable price tag, thus making it easier for consumers to use the same without worrying about spiraling costs. Unlike the massive amounts of municipal solid waste that presently pollute the earth, alternative energy offers an option to get clean energy and can even process municipal waste into energy by eliminating the garbage.

In this way, a lot of health problems, mainly those related to respiratory illnesses due to air pollution, can be reduced. Another advantage of these resources is the ability of local energy production. Since you can set up the system to harness the power of the sun, the wind, or the tides locally, you no longer need to depend on the import of fossil fuels from other countries or bear the high cost of transportation of power that is produced miles away from where you live.

Unlike fossil fuels that generate massive greenhouse gas emissions which in turn contribute greatly to global warming, alternative energy sources promise a healthy and clean world for the present and future generations. If the switch to these resources isn?t made on a massive scale soon, rising levels of global warming may not leave much to look forward to for the future generations.

It wouldn?t be an exaggeration to say that alternative energy sources hold the key to the future.
