Greenhouse Gases Explained

December 8th, 2007 largie Posted in Global Warming No Comments »

Many people have heard about greenhouse gases. So… Some people hear about greenhouse gases when they’re in school. Others hear about it on the news, or read about in the newspaper. It’s very important that people understand what greenhouse gases are & the effect that these gases have on the environment, & each of us as individuals. Here, you’ll find greenhouse gases explained.

Greenhouse gases occur when gases float into the atmosphere & trap heat. When the atmosphere traps heat, it reflects that heat back on the planet. There’re a variety of gases that enter the atmosphere naturally. However, most of the gases that enter the atmosphere do so as a result of activities of people on Earth. Here, you’ll find the many gases that are released due to human activity that can be prevented & reduce the greenhouse gas issue.

Carbon Dioxide

Carbon Dioxide is one of the most common greenhouse gases. Clear? If a fossil fuel is burnt, such as oil & natural gas, it will release carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. If an actual person burns trees, & other types of wood products this specific gas can be easily found drifting into the atmosphere. The carbon dioxide that is found in the atmosphere can be removed when plants soak it into their living process. Right. When this happens, it simply goes right back into the atmosphere.

Methane Gas

Methane gas is another type of gas that enters the atmosphere & results in damage to the environment. You can often find that methane gases are released from farming practices. There is more. This particular type of gas can also be created at places that hold waste, like landfills.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous Oxide is a type of gas that can be released in the atmosphere by many types of activities. There is more. These activities include burning various types of fuels, various types of activities in industrial parks, & when landfills decide to burn the items that are contained in it.

It is important that virtually everyone understands that greenhouse gases are the main ingredient in the devastating effects that result from global warming. Many people are not familiar with global warming, & exactly what it means. However, global warming occurs when the gases & various toxins are trapped inside the earth’s atmosphere & results in warmer temperatures & extreme weather conditions.

When warmer temperatures occur, the ice around the world starts to melt. When this happens, sea levels begin to rise. This means that more water starts to cover the earth. When there is more water, & warmer temperatures, it results in more dangerous storms. Right. We have already seen a lot of these dangerous storms in the form of hurricanes & tornadoes.

It is very important that we all do our share in order to prevent the damage that is occurring to the atmosphere as a result of greenhouse gases. Discover & implement new ways to do things that are safe to our environment.

Your Role in Global Warming

December 3rd, 2007 largie Posted in Global Warming No Comments »

Global warming is an issue that we have created. It’s an issue that we can work to resolve. The damage that is already done is irreversible, but we can make changes now to protect the earth’s atmosphere in the future… If we reduce the amount of fuel that we burn, by making changes to our lifestyle, we can reduce the amount of damage that is done to the atmosphere. Here, you’ll find what role you can take in order to reduce the effects of global warming on our world.

1) The first step that you can take in order to reduce the effect of global warming is to change all of your light bulbs from standard bulbs to energy efficient light bulbs. Energy efficient light bulbs are generally more expensive, but they will save you a considerable amount of money on your energy costs & will also reduce the amount of greenhouse gases that are released into the earth’s atmosphere.

2) The next step that you can take to reduce the effect of global warming is to ensure that you turn things off when you’re not using them. This helps to save on the amount of electricity that you use. And so… So far so good. When you save on electricity, you save money on your power costs & reduce the amount of fuel that is required to burn to give you electricity. This, in turn, helps to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases that are released into the atmosphere. You should also ensure that you turn off water when it’s not being used to benefit the atmosphere.

3) It’s important that you learn to recycle & reuse things when you’re able to. You should make certain that you get actively involved in a local recycling program. When you recycle, you can reduce the amount of greenhouse gases that can add to the global warming issue.

4) It’s important that you attempt to use the air conditioner & heater in your home less. You should use a thermostat when one is available to control the usage of these items. You should attempt to use fans more & less air conditioning. Do you follow? This will help to reduce the effect of global warming by limiting the amount of greenhouse gases that are released into the atmosphere.

5) You should attempt to encourage others to conserve energy. Inform them of the dangers of global warming & how greenhouse gases affect the atmosphere. You should let them know that virtually everyone should hold themselves accountable for the energy that they consume, the amount that they drive, & the things that they do not recycle.

6) You should attempt to buy products that are considered energy efficient. Many appliances that are available now have an energy efficiency rating. You should make an effort to buy appliances that use less electricity in order to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases that enter the earth’s atmosphere.

These are just a few changes you can make in your everyday life which will contribute to lessening the amount of greenhouse gasses. By all of us working together, we can all have a positive effect on reducing the consequences of global warming.

The Silver Lining in Global Warming?

November 28th, 2007 largie Posted in Global Warming No Comments »

Here’s a story that made me wonder about an interesting, if unintended, consequence of global warming…

The arctic is one of the earth’s last energy frontiers. So… Some estimates put ten billion tons of oil & gas in about 460,000 square miles of the Arctic shelf. As the Arctic’s ice melts & recedes, presumably due to global warming, it is becoming more likely those waters can be navigated & that oil & gas extracted.

Russia wants to send a miniature sub to the seabed under the North Pole & leave a titanium capsule containing the Russian flag - a symbolic claim of the Arctic Ocean floor for Russia. Russia has claimed this polar region since at least the days of Bolshevika & stated that claim in 2002 in an application to the U.N. committee that administers the Law of the Sea. The U.N. rejected that application citing lack of evidence. This expedition is scientifically important as well as politically important. Russia’s claim to the Arctic floor riches may depend on whether the expedition, subject to dispute & verification of course, determines that the Arctic’s ocean floor in that area is a continuation of the Lomonosov Ridge, a 1,240 mile underwater mountain range connecting Russia & Greenland.

I’m doing some of the simpler things, striking a balance with nature if you will. I drive a hybrid car; my family has a recycle garbage can along with a regular & a yard waste garbage can; I use compact fluorescent light bulbs wherever they will work in my home. Many weeks there’re 3 different colored garbage cans outside our house.

Our recycle garbage is always full & sometimes we even have to sneak a few pieces into the neighbor’s recycle can. In actual fact, I bet we recycle more than twice or two times what goes in the black, non-recyclable can. Oftentimes, our black can has only one lonely bag from the kitchen garbage representing our 7-person family’s entire non-recyclable garbage for a whole week.

Though it may sound like it, I am actually not a fanatic about global warming & environmental issues. Clear? I believe global warming is real. I believe people play a role in that & I believe we should do what we can about it… On the other hand, I do not believe global warming is a big crisis, I do not believe people are as responsible as the alarmists would have us believe, & I really do not believe we can completely go back to the lifestyle that would be required to really make a difference.

I tend to believe things usually work out pretty much the way they should - whether by nature’s hand or God’s. Our earth has an amazing way of renewing, cleansing & taking care of itself & us. And people have an incredible way of inventing what’s needed when it is needed to solve the problems of the day. I think if we all balance our actions without worrying too much about using the earth’s resources, we will have enough of what we need.

The battle over the Arctic’s resources could start a new cold war, but that is a problem with people, not with nature.

Could this be the silver lining in the global warming phenomenon? Off the top of my head, I think it just might be.

Global Warming & Education Abroad

November 23rd, 2007 largie Posted in Global Warming No Comments »

Not that long ago, a major concern amongst university administrations & student recruiters in the UK & Australia was the effect the increased threats of terrorism against those countries - & the US - would have on the numbers of students who wanted to do advanced academic work in those countries. Right. Would parents wanting to give their children the best educational advantages available also send their children into potential war zones?

The actual effect has been hard to measure, since the factor isn’t easily quantifiable.

Right now, one of the world’s biggest security threats ? a steadily heating global climate & the extreme weather changes that seem to be caused by it ? is striking the UK at its literal heart, giving universities throughout the country a host of new things to worry about. Britain is undergoing its greatest flooding in at least sixty years ? not incidentally at the same time southern Europe is withering under a record heat wave that has taken the lives of at least sixty people as of this writing.

A glimpse at a map of the areas hardest hit by the floods in England bring place names renowned throughout the world. The prime example, Oxford, on the River Thames, is synonymous with British higher education. It is still what newscaster call ‘early days’, so there’s no telling what the damage to Oxford & others of Britain’s top universities have been or will eventually be. At the time of this writing, the concern is still for saving lives & whole towns from being washed away.

One likely thing is that the clean-up will include a deep look at what can be done to protect some of the world’s greatest universities, their facilities ? & their students. For the most part, terrorism has been a treat that has manifested mostly in London ? & terrorist attacks have not had an only-in-England stamp. As but one conspicuous example, the generations-old conflicts between native Thai Buddhist & separatist Thai Muslim populations in Thailand’s southernmost three provinces have, over the last year, reached new peaks of violence sparked by an energized insurgencies. There is more. Thai students thinking of studying abroad in countries such as the UK would be only too familiar with the ubiquity of world terrorism.

How universities everywhere ? not just in the UK ? deal with the ‘extreme weather’ we have been told to prepare for throughout the world could have profound effects on the very nature of the educations those universities offer. Until now, they have, for the most part, promised advanced insights & training in the practices of international business. Now that global climate change in all its aspects is threatening to become a ‘growth industry’ ? from earth science to public policy ? the real opportunity to educate & train young students in a range of new knowledge & skill areas they may well need to survive, wherever they live & work after earning advanced degrees, is one they will miss at the world’s collective peril.

Arguments Against Global Warming

November 18th, 2007 largie Posted in Global Warming No Comments »

Science is based closely on facts & evidence compiled by an overwhelming body of research & experiments. There is more. To argue against science, there fore, one would need just as powerful a fact baked by just as in depth research & experiments. However, arguments against global warming thus far have seen only unfounded opinions motivated by self indulged intentions.

In the United States, for the longest time right wing politicians attempted to convince the people that global warming was nothing more than a liberal propaganda. In the face of mounting ridicule, many of them have changed their position since. However, the force undermining global warming is a dangerous one. As the International Panel for Climate Change (IPCC), the most authoritative body on the subject partly established by the Untied Nations, prepared to release their report in February this year, oil companies such as Exxon Mobil began to offer academics & intellectuals hard cash to publish articles to counter the IPCC findings. Philip Cooney, a long time lobbyist for the oil industry was hired as a key official in the Bush administration & was given a free pass to edit a report on climate change before the government released it to the public. The idea  was to undermine the threat of global warming. After uproar from the scientific community, & after copies of Cooney’s original hand edited reports were leaked in the press, he lost his job.

It seems that the most common recurring factor about the argument against the evidence of global warming is that these arguments are concocted & disseminated by industries that depend on the production & sale of elements that cause global warming. It’s also a recurring theme that many of these industrialists have established long & intimate relationships with politicians who help their cause & receive enormous financial campaign contributions in returns. Clear? In the case of American politics, environment has traditionally been a liberal cause that the Democratic Party fights for. So instead of being treated as a bipartisan issue of much importance, the right-wing media has relentlessly worked to attempt & disprove the existence of global warming, a movement led by radio personalities such as Rush Limbaugh, who has also long battled prescription drug addiction.

But perhaps the leading public voice to undermine global warming has been that of Myron Ebell. While the media often hounds him for his ludicrous sound byte for the sake of presenting the opposing view, virtually everyone admits he is the master of spin doctors when it comes to global warming. His D.C based think tank Competitive Enterprise Institute has received regular funding from oil industry giants to perform research & suggest policies that portray global warming as a hoax or worst yet, a good thing for everyone.

It does not take long to realize that there is no serious argument against global warming, & most of the ones that do float around are designed by groups with vested interests. Clear? In actual fact, the general consensus amongst the world’s population, leaders & the scientific community that it’s one of the greatest threats that mankind has ever faced has never been stronger.

Has Global Warming Been Proven?

November 13th, 2007 largie Posted in Global Warming No Comments »

Many folks seem convinced or perhaps they have convinced themselves that Global Warming is a serious issue. The Mass Media, former Vice President of the United States & even Hollywood has gotten into the picture, but is it real? One member of a think tank recently stated that;

Global Warming has not actually been scientifically proven, it has merely been a landslide of carefully selected information to prove themselves right. The humans do not have enough data to prove this & normal cycles occur on our Earth all the time, since the beginning of said planet.

Yes I know of your drought in actual fact in your Nation’s Drought Guide for citizens you’ll find my name & some tips for car washing in an efficient way to save water, your own government’s guide. The Flow of Water is something I’ve studied intensely for years.

The drought of a thousand years could easily have been caused by the change in the North & South Pole Axis, which moves around what appears to be an oval track, some say it flips every 44,000 years or something of this nature? Again theory, I do not buy it… Many things can cause droughts besides mankind’s endeavors, such as Volcanic Activity, Solar Flares, space energy, trade wind changes, ocean currents & other cycles. 11, 22, 50, 75, 100, 400, 700, 1000, 2200, 3000, 10,000, 44,000 year cycles are all discussed in various papers on weather, farmers almanac, geological records (ice cores), tree trunks, sedimentary layers, plate tectonics, fault lines, etc.

Applying a super computer too all the data & not taking it out of context or extrapolating it with more unknown figures or taking into consideration others, will cause you to simply have bad  estimates on the pendulum shifts which are natural & warming of the climate can produce, cooling & cooling warming & all factors are in the mix at all times.

For all we know your drought could end at the end of this coming summer down under & be flooded for 10-years. Just like the Global Warming alarmists said that Hurricane Season in the states would be as bad  this year & we had no hurricanes? That has only happened 3 times in fifty years.

So much for Global Warming doom & gloom, sure that was not solar flare activity last year & weakened trade winds from volcanic activity? You know I hear you on the drought issue & have written extensively on the subject, as it truly is serious & not just there.

I truly do not believe that you can not call human activity the cause of the changes of the normal cycles of this planet as it reaches an equilibrium & then periods of chaos ensue only to swing back the other way & find another equilibrium, after all we have 5.5 billion year old planet & it ain’t going to end on our watch, the chances of that are like 1 X ten to the 44th power.

Forget the doom & gloom & prepare for a slight cooling. And the so-called flooding or sea rising 18 feet is all BS too? What 12 inches in 100 years? Nothing, then it will shift back, so what? After the think tank member got done with his tirade on the Global Warming Alarmists, we all took a breather. But we thought you might like to hear the other side of the debate, which is being drowned out now. Perhaps this article will propel thought in 2007.

Global Warming And The Rising Sea Level

November 8th, 2007 largie Posted in Global Warming No Comments »

In 2008, the effects of the rising sea level will be more obvious than ever, as global warming moves to the forefront of international concern. Especially, to the United States who has seen disaster.

When Hurricane Katrina hit the coastal city of New Orleans in 2005, the world watched with horror the devastation it created in an American city. As global warming continues, unforeseen levels of natural disaster will become increasingly common, while erratic weather patterns will plague our natural seasons. Clear? It’s not a coincidence that one of the warmest years ever recorded all occurred between 1995 & 2006.

And scientists predict the rest of 2007 & 2008 will be even hotter. The extreme levels of carbon emissions released by human activities have reached all time high, a shocking 379 parts per million in 2005- the highest amount ever in the last 650,000 years! No wonder heat is getting trapped at incredible rates in our atmosphere.

So what does all this mean? As the earth’s temperature continues to rise, our natural reserves of ice caps & glaciers continue to melt. OK. Scientists are already alarmed at the unprecedented rate at which the world’s frozen bodies are melting, from Greenland & the Antarctic to the glaciers of the Himalayas.

As more ice sheets & glaciers melt, more water gets added to the seas & oceans around the world, increasing their level in general. But it’s also natural for water to expand upon warming. So not just will the sea levels rise, its waters will in actual fact take up more space as it heats. There is more. The large ice sheets have also traditionally worked as reflectors of the sun’s heat. But as the size of these sheets gets smaller, instead of reflecting the heat, it begins to observe it & melts ever faster.

Of course, this a disaster for the world’s ecology, it has already forced Polar bears to become an endangered species, but just as devastating for humans too. In India, scientists have already recorded an annual rise in sea levels at a rate of 3.14mm in Bay of Bengal, & as much as 10mm in the Khulna region of Bangladesh. It is the same case in coastal towns & cities across the world. Its evidences have become clear in the US too. While the edges of Mangroove forests are already dotted with submerged forests in the Bermuda, as much as one third of the marsh at Chesapeake Bay’s Blackwater Natural National Wildlife Refuge is gone!

Major cities like San Francisco, Manhattan, to Mumbai are all at risk. Increasing sea levels will not just mean loss & erosion of land, but also more frequent occurrences of super hurricanes such as the one that drowned New Orleans or cause the Tsunamis of 2004.

Another humanitarian crisis that could be caused by the rising sea level is that they will also create an acute shortage of fresh water reserves on land. Scientists have confirmed that at this rate the Himalayan ecology in South Asia will now almost certainly face extreme floods followed by extreme droughts. And hundreds of millions of people in the region will experience water & food shortage.

When global warming was first discussed, it seemed like the consequences would be in many life times later. But today, within our own life time, the possibility of witnessing the havoc cause by global warming & the rising sea level has become distinctly clear.

More About Global Warming

November 4th, 2007 largie Posted in Global Warming No Comments »

Global Warming is said to be the rise in the average temperature of the Earth’s atmosphere due to the green house gases like Carbon-di- oxide, Methane, Nitrous oxide & Ozone in the atmosphere. The ‘Greenhouse effect’ caused by these gases warms the atmosphere naturally as this effect traps the sun’s radiation & act as a thermal blanket by maintain the Earth’s temperature within a livable limit of about 59 degree Fahrenheit. If the Earth did not have this thermal blanket, then the planet in which we all live in would probably be about eighty degree cooler than it’s at present, making it very cold & hard for us to survive & live in the planet. Global Warming is responsible for maintaining the temperature of the atmosphere.

The above factors that have been discussed are all related to the natural greenhouse effect & the natural global warming that will result in the normal climatic changes. But, nowadays, people relate the global warming topic to the adverse climatic changes that they’re experiencing, which means that there is an increase over & above the permissible level of the temperature in the Earth’s atmosphere which is influencing the varying climatic patterns. Nature seems to be always warning us of the influence of global warming in this modern world & the few signs that have been brought to our notice includes the melting of the glaciers, increase in the sea levels, the recent Tsunami that caused enormous damage to life & property, more than normal heat waves experienced in many countries etc.

The climate of the Earth is always changing. Earlier, the changes in the climate were all natural & were considered seasonal. But the frequent changes in the Earth’s climate, since the early 1900, have been identified to be caused by human behavior rather than due to the effect of the natural changes in the atmosphere. And so… Since the industrial revolution, there has been lot of burning of fossil fuels like coal, oil & natural gas which results in letting out a lot of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, mainly Carbon- di- oxide or CO2 into the atmosphere. There have been billions of tons of CO2 that are burned into the atmosphere every year & the amount is increasing by about 3% every year.

The Amazon forest is also turning out to be a major carbon sink. It’s reported that there is a net loss of rain forest along with the increase of carbon into the atmosphere. Deforestation is the main cause for the trees in the Amazon rain forests to not completely soak up the carbon let out into the atmosphere & this may also lead to varying climatic changes due to the presence of global warming. Do you follow? The effects of the carbon gases in the atmosphere has not spared the oceans as well as they also act as a carbon sink. The effect of increased carbon in the atmosphere has made the oceans more acidic, causing damage to the sea creatures, bleaching corals & also further causing damage to the general health of the oceans of the world. This has led to increase in the sea levels & the warmer water due to the effect of the warmer atmosphere also has led to more intense & unusual weather & climatic changes.

The various climatic changes that may occur due to the increased global warming effect are melting of the glaciers, rise in the temperatures of the regions on the Northern Hemisphere, melting of snows in the temperate regions earlier than before, frequent storms & floods, dry land will go more drier, rise in winter & night temperature & a more humid atmosphere.

A Guide to Global Warming

October 30th, 2007 largie Posted in Global Warming No Comments »

Temperature change is a normal occurrence that is happening in the planet that we live in, but the varying temperature patterns seen lately has been connected to the emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, more simply known as Global Warming. Even though there were changes in the temperatures in the early ages of our planet, it was thought to be normal. But, the evolution of industries & factories in the early 1900’s has brought a wide change in the temperature patterns that are causing a lot of concern to the researches & scientists. There is more. The main factor attributing to global warming is the emission of polluting gases like carbon dioxide, methane etc into the atmosphere. By definition, Global warming is the increase in the average temperature that gradually warms the Earth’s atmosphere.

Global warming is a phenomenon that has been on the rise all these years. But, in the last century, the rise in the temperature levels has been alarming. Do you follow? The studies that have been conducted to find out the increase in the atmospheric temperature have been attributed to the greenhouse gas concentrations, volcanoes & solar variations. There is more. The increase in the temperature of the Earth’s atmosphere will cause severe climatic changes & weather condition changes. There is more. The main cause of global warming is the emission of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. It’s well known that every tree takes in carbon dioxide from the air during its growing process & it gives out carbon dioxide when it dies or the wood decays. Clear? In the last decade, many trees have been felled & woods burnt & these acts have further added to the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

The effects of global warming are even more alarming. If no action is taken to stop or subsidies the effect of global warming, it will prove to be catastrophic. Already a few facts have come out regarding the ill effects of global warming on this planet. The Kilimanjaro glaciers have been melting so rapidly that the mountain lost a ¼ of its ice from 2000 to 2006. There have been reports that the glaciers in the Andes Mountains are also melting rapidly. The massive melting of these glaciers is evidence that the world is getting too warm too fast.

The following are the facts about the effects of global warming on this planet - average surface temperature has increased by about 0.6 C over the past 100 years; sea level has risen by ten to twenty cm over the past 100 years; increase in the atmospheric carbon dioxide of about 75% annually due to the burning of fossils, while twenty-five percent is attributed to changes in the land use like deforestation, overgrazing & over cultivation; precipitation has increased in some land areas & deceased in other areas; increase in the droughts in areas like Asia & Africa; major flooding in different areas & more recently Tsunami that caused havoc to life & property in many parts of the world.

The major cause for this global warming to occur on this Earth is thought to be man made & its effects can only be drastically reduced or erased from this planet, if each & every one of us drives ourselves to this common cause. Global warming in this planet can be significantly reduced if we reduce the emission of carbon dioxide & other polluting gases into the atmosphere, stopping deforestation & starting re-forestation, minimal use of non renewable energy & using renewable energy sources in your homes & offices.

Global Warming is very real, & its here. Many of us still are ignorant of the crashing effects of climate change & global warming, visit the Global Warming Pages for many more info at http://globalwarmingpages.com

What is the Greenhouse Effect & the Importance of Methane to Climate Change

October 25th, 2007 largie Posted in Global Warming No Comments »

The greenhouse effect, also called the “greenhouse phenomenon” or “global warming”, has recently been receiving a great deal of scientific & popular attention. The term refers to a cause-and-effect relationship in which “heat blanketing” of the earth, due to trace gas increases in the atmosphere, is expected to result in global warming.

By global warming we mean an increase in the average temperature of the planet. Actually global warming is rather a confusing term because global warming doesn’t mean that everywhere will be hotter all of the time, it just means that on average the globe will be warmer.

Now we just mentioned that ‘heat blanketing’ is taking place, & that this is due to trace gases in our atmosphere. There’re a number of so called ‘trace’ gases, which simply means gases that are present in the atmosphere at low levels, such that there is only a trace present (a small amount in proportion to the other gases). So it’s these trace gases that are producing an effect which is like wrapping the world in a blanket. Just like any blanket, it has a net effect which holds the heat in.

These trace gases are increasing as the result of human activities. So… Scientists know this. Clear? It’s easily measured historically by analyzing things like pack ice which was deposited in layers which layers can be readily dated & go back hundreds of thousands of years.

Carbon dioxide (chemically shown as CO2, which is simply a chemist’s shorthand way of telling us that it’s a molecule made up from two Oxygen (O) molecules to each Carbon (C) molecule), is a trace gas.

The principal gases in approximate order of importance, are carbon dioxide, methane, the chlorofluorocarbons (considered collectively) & nitrous oxide.

Carbon dioxide is the trace gas scientists believe is contributing most to the “heat blanketing” & currently receives the most attention.

However, Carbon Dioxide isn’t the only trace gas which is implicated in climate change & methane is another which some have estimated to be over a third as much as that of carbon dioxide.

Gas from natural sources, cows & other ruminants, & natural sources where natural decomposition by fermentation produces methane, all contribute to the blanketing which is the cause of the greenhouse effect.

However, human activity is also responsible for a lot of methane gas production & Municipal Solid Waste Landfills have in turn been recognized to be a source of methane which is contributing to the atmospheric buildup.

However, the magnitude of the landfill methane contribution & the overall significance of landfill methane to the greenhouse effect have been uncertain, & the subject of some debate. But, as time goes on the evidence becomes stronger, & the fact of climate change is now accepted by the vast majority of scientists working in this field.

So, it appears that methane (using US waste generation data & remembering that the methane from United States landfills is a very large quantity) makes an important net contribution to the greenhouse phenomenon.

Landfill produces a lot of landfill gas which is largely methane. Measures to reduce landfill methane emissions are thought to be among the most economical steps which could be taken to address a component of this problem.

So now you know more about this subject, & we hope you appreciate the danger posed by uncontrolled climate change. And so… So far so good. We have explained, & hopefully ‘demystified’ some of these details ? so now you can visit our web sites armed with enough knowledge to help you to find out more…

Steve Evans is a regular contributor of environment related articles.
