How Home Businesses Help Cut Down on Pollution

January 5th, 2008 largie Posted in A Green Home and A Green Life | No Comments »

I know how much people love smog. We can not get enough of the stuff, but I think we should think about trying to get rid of it.

Problem is that we will not dispose of the smog until we stop driving our cars to work or we make cars that do not pollute. Problem is most people live to far from work to walk or ride their bike & purchasing a car that doesn’t run on gas is to pricey for the common folk.

I know the one thing that we can afford to do, is stay at home & work. You can start a business these days for about the same price of one car payment.

Just think of the money you save from not driving to work & how much cleaner our air would be if virtually everyone worked from home. I believe most people do care about the environment but they say to themselves. “What can to I do about global warming, I’m only one person, how can I make a difference?”

You can make a difference by working from home & getting other people to work from home as well. This is how we can do our part. One home based business owner at a time.

It is a fact. Global Warming is a problem & our governments will not stop burning fossil fuels anytime soon. There is to much money at stake. There is one way to reverse the effects of global warming, but I’ll save that for a different article.

I know this article is kind of far-fetched but anything is possible if we just work together. I believe humans were put on this earth to save it, not destroy it.

Your Money Maker

I grew up in a small town in Wisconsin called Shell Lake. People there’re friendly & down to earth. Sure virtually everyone knows everyones problems & virtually everyone gossips about each other. That is because there is nothing else to do. Except drink, fish, hunt & tip cows all at the same time, but I believe there is no better place on earth then Shell Lake. The thing is I am a big city boy with big city needs. There is more. That is why I live in the second best place on earth. Denver, Colorado. There is so many fun things to do in Denver. So many that I can not name them all. Plus I never do anything because I am to busy writing articles. http://www.makercash.com

Can Outdoor Organic Plants Grow Indoors?

January 5th, 2008 largie Posted in Gardening and Organics | No Comments »

It may appear as news to you, but you can actually grow many organic plants indoors, & it’s quite easy! From herbs to flowers, there’re many plants that grow very well indoors; you’ll be easily able to enjoy your own organic plants all year round.

Will Outdoor Plants Grow Inside?

If your organic plants are currently growing outdoors, you can bring them inside, providing you do it properly. You should pick robust plants ? after the end of the spring & summer growing seasons select the plants that fit this description. Take these plants, & dig them up before the first frost hits. Dig deeply down into the dirt to make certain you get the entire root of your organic plants. Clear? Immediately plant them in your plant with fresh, new potting soil. The root ball should have around two inches of dirt around it in the pot. Eliminate insects if any ? use organic methods, like spraying plants with soapy water. After this, water the plants thoroughly.

Now, before you bring the plants inside, you have to keep them from hardening off. Start by placing them somewhere outdoors where they will not receive much direct sunlight. Keep them watered & pruned; do this for a week to accustom your organic plants to their indoor light conditions.

After all this you can bring your organic plants indoors. Make sure they will be getting five hours of sunlight. If you can not keep them in the sun, a fluorescent light that hangs six inches above the plant & left on while you’re awake, around fourteen hours, does the job of providing light perfectly. Do not let the temperature indoors go lower than sixty degrees. Clear? In cold environment your organic plants will not do well. You should also provide enough moisture by placing their pots in water & gravel trays. Finally, keep them away from cold drafts.

Keeping Organic Plants Indoors All Year

Your organic plants can stay indoors throughout the entire year. The secret is to duplicate the outdoor environment to the maximum. Remember that your organic plants are going to enjoy a humid environment, so when you bring the outdoor plants indoors, remember to set the pots in trays of gravel & water. By doing so you ensure that the soil does not become too damp, yet the plants have the required moisture. And so… So far so good. While watering is essential, over watering is harmful. Finally, make certain that your organic plants get plenty of light. Follow these simple rules, & your organic plants will feel great indoors!

Hot Begets Not; The Truth about Global Warming

January 5th, 2008 largie Posted in Environmental issues | No Comments »

Why is virtually everyone so worried about global warming when in reality they should be worried about global cooling in the next coming Ice Age? There is a book out called; Not by Fire, But By Ice. In this book it explains why global warming or climate change isn’t really an issue at all, instead we should get our civilizations prepared for a coming Ice Age in about 150 to 400 years.

In fact many anthropologists believe that the heat of the atmosphere has given mankind & the human species time to regroup & evolve. Hot Begets Not, Hotter Climates go until the pendulum swings & an ice age cometh; That is The Truth about Global Warming.

Global warming assumes that it’s caused by mankind & the climate scientist that believe in global warming say that it’s caused by mankind’s CO2 emissions from our factories, power plants & transportation. While this theory sounds somewhat plausible & yes climate change in the atmosphere might be affected some what by human emissions there’re far greater causes that might he get the climate besides the head lice or locusts (mankind) that is dwelling on the surface.

If these climate scientists, politicians & virtually everyone were reality based in their thinking then they would come up with solutions that we have discussed in our on line think tank.

For instance; why not plant six to 8 billion trees; developed the clean coal technology innovations that have already been discovered for our power plants; put coatings on the roads in concrete & tops of buildings in our large cities to stop urban heat; collect the CO2 in the atmosphere that is over large cities & use it for another purpose?

You see there’re many solutions to the problem of climate change that if mankind were really serious & wanted to do something about it they could. But rather the global warming debate is much to do about politics & power control.

Global warming isn’t real. I certainly hope this article is of interest & that is has propelled thought. The goal is simple; to help you in your quest to be the best in 2007. I thank you for reading my many articles on diverse subjects, which interest you.

Tackling the Challenges of Ocean Wave Renewable Energy Infrastructure Generation

January 4th, 2008 largie Posted in Energy and Alternatives | No Comments »

Every new technology introduced to generate energy will have challenges & ocean wave renewable energy infrastructure generators are no exception. One Online Think Tank while tackling the challenges & problems of ocean wave generation noted that such projects might in actual fact be dangerous to see life. If you will recall many nuclear power plants have superheated water from their cooling system, which can kill fish.

An ocean wave renewable energy system might be dangerous to fish if it’s not designed properly, however one company Fieldstone Energy has designed a system, which appears to be safe to sea life & environmental groups are watching them all like hawks. Luckily most environmental groups like the idea  of non-polluting renewable wave generation. Even so with minor modifications of the design & barriers to the inlet waters it’s believed that such a system could be nearly 100% safe to sea life.

The Online Think Tank stated that; The design seems fine & thinks these issues are no longer issues. Rather, they seem to be more concerned that in modern industrialized nations, which already have power plants, that the cost of the infrastructure, Real Estate, etc must show a ROI & such.

What will really be interesting is after the first one is built then there will be folks lining up. Someone, or through the Alternative Energy Initiatives ought to fund a scaled down unit as a workable prototype since the advantages for the future are so incredible. But then again if you’re going to build one, GO BIG, may as well get with the economies of scale? Fieldstone Energy http://www.fieldstoneenergy.com has multiple designs capable of either small or large units. Clear? I certainly hope that this article will propel thought in 2007.

Painting - Think Green

January 3rd, 2008 largie Posted in A Green Home and A Green Life | No Comments »

When we say; ‘think green’ we’re not talking about the color of the paint that you’re planning to use on your kitchen walls! A ‘green’ remodel is an environmentally friendly approach to any home renovation project. Thinking green not just improves the look of your home but it’s a healthier home with less maintenance & lower utility costs. Plus you’re contributing to a making our planet a better place for future generations.

As with all remodel projects, good planning is the key to success & cost efficiencies. If you plan green, you’ll obtain a wide range of additional benefits that include, comfort & convenience coupled with beauty & efficiency & all of these will be structured on environmentally sound conservation policies with a view to increasing the health of you & your family.

Most people when tackling a painting project go straight to the paint store & collect a quantity of color swatches, go home & concentrate their decision on what paint to buy based closely on color. Little consideration is given to the type of paint, its gloss factor & to the surface preparation, both of which must be taken into account if you expect to end up with a quality finish. A professional painter will tell you that more than ½ of the time required on a painting project is used for surface preparation, primarily cleaning. Paints do not adhere well to dirt, dust & grime.

In thinking green you must consider the entire project from initial surface preparation to the final paint coat.

Often in order to clean the surface a simple solution of soap & water will get rid of all of the dirt & grime. For greasy areas increase the soap to water proportion. If your surfaces require something stronger look for the least toxic & select a cleanser that in non-chlorinated & non-acid. Avoid cleaners with hazard warning labels such as ‘Poison’ or ‘Danger’.

If sanding is necessary wear a dust mask, & eye protection.

Organic Cotton Clothes for Kids

January 2nd, 2008 largie Posted in Gardening and Organics | No Comments »

How do you like to dress your child? Do you want him or her to look like a miniature adult or to be a child as long as possible? From my own observations there does seem to be a need in some people to dress children like mini adults which I feel is a pity. I would argue that these years are very precious & from my own experience as a mother I can tell you they pass all too quickly. I would be really interested to hear your viewpoint on this question. One thing which I’m sure we will agree upon is that children’s clothes need to be versatile & give value for money.

There are some great clothes available now in organic cotton which is soft & cosy for your child because the cotton fibres are intact & not broken by the chemicals & machines used in conventional cotton farming & production of textiles. An important point to consider is that organic cotton is less likely to trigger allergies because there’re no harmful chemicals used either in growing the cotton or in finishing the material. Organic cotton has maximum breathability because it doesn’t contain anti shrink resins. But do not worry all clothes sold on the website are sized to allow for shrinkage, but having said that it is not a good idea  to ‘cook’ them in the tumble dryer but they’re fine dried on a low heat. As ever I would recommend using an environmentally friendly washing powder like Ecover which has the additional benefit of being kinder to tender baby skin, but perhaps that is just me on my hobby horse! Even though colours & patterns are funky they’re produced without toxic dyes & fasteners are nickel free. And so… So again less likelihood of allergic reactions.

Clever designs which are produced with thought & care can make a lot of difference to your child’s comfort & that is really important for little ones. There is more. They can not tell you when the material is harsh & rubbing or waistbands are constricting & pinching. But all this care & attention to detail doesn’t mean that clothes need be boring & unattractive. Visit us at Sonesuk to see some of the lovely outfits we have on sale from dungarees to tee shirts. There is more. The new autumn range which will be arriving soon has even more clothes which are reversible; so not just have you two different tops in one garment, but on those occasions that seem to happen all too often with kids when you leave home with a clean top & arrive to find there has been an accident with an ice-cream or similar, no problem just turn it inside out. (This used to happen to me all too often on the way to the baby clinic!) Another clever idea  is rollups on trousers & dungarees with contrasting patterns which can change the whole look. You might say more looks for less money… As the clothes are made with best quality organic cotton they will wear well & pass down to little brothers & sisters. So… So style for little ones is achieved without sacrificing that all important comfort factor & moreover they look like the small children they are.

Clean Sources of Energy to Avoid Contributing to Global Warming

January 2nd, 2008 largie Posted in Global Warming | No Comments »

Many people wonder what they can do to help dampen the effects of the climate crisis. One method of doing so incorporates the usage of ‘clean’ energy; that is, energy that doesn’t contribute to the levels of greenhouse gas present in our atmosphere. There’re many sources of clean energy, & even though it may cost more, the benefit on the planet’s ecosystem is well worth the extra money… Commonly known as ‘green power’, the Environmental Protection Agency has formed a partnership to help encourage the usage of these alternative sources of energy.

Wind energy is one option when it comes to renewable power. Large spinning turbines harvest the movement of the air, & the energy is transferred into an electricity generator for usage in any application. While it is not available everywhere, wind energy represents one of the speediest sectors of growth when it comes to alternative power sources, & it’s consequently one of the most widely used alternative sources. As a matter of fact, since the year 2000, the number of wind turbines present in the United States has more than doubled!

Solar power is another significant source of renewable energy. Solar cells known as photovoltaics are placed on sun-catching areas such as the roof of a house. These cells turn light energy into electricity, & enough electric panels can provide power for an entire home, leaving you independent of the energy companies altogether.

Geothermal energy represents a source of energy that isn’t commonly discussed. Heat from underneath the earth’s surface is harvested as steam, which helps to spin a turbine much in the way of wind power. The spinning motion is sent to an electricity generator, & the power can be often used in any modern application.

Low impact hydropower represents another significant source of renewable energy. Incorporating the use of a turbine, hydropower is created in streams & rivers which produce enough of a force to properly spin the turbines. Many aspects of hydropower need to be approved to ensure that the turbines do not significantly effect wildlife that may be living in the area where the energy is being harvested. Most hydropower sources do not dam a river up; they operate with the river in free-flow as to reduce the effect on the environment.

While these sources may not actually be easy to come by, your conscience can be unburdened regarding the climate crisis by switching to one of these environmentally friendly sources of energy. Do your part in helping to change our planet for the better!

If Global Warming is Not Real Then What Normal Cycles are Causing the Planet to Heat Up?

January 1st, 2008 largie Posted in Environmental issues | No Comments »

Despite what the media says not all scientists go for the Global Warming Theory. In actual fact, many can not believe that the Theory has gotten this far. The reality is that the Earth has only heated up some 1.5 degrees average over the last fifty years & we can not even be sure that is accurate because the measurements back then were not as good as today.

Sure we see some ice melting which would indicate a heating up of things, but how do we know that isn’t a regional shift cycle that occurs naturally? Of course if you attempt to debate this with a CO2 Man-Made Caused Global Warming Alarmist, they will ask;

If Global Warming is Not Real then What Normal Cycles are Causing the Planet to Heat Up?

The fact is that it could indeed be lots of things, so let’s look at a few shall we?

Ice melting puts cool 8) water into part of the ocean not normally cool, this changes dynamics & weather flows & patterns too. If weather patterns become less robust in some areas they do not allow the distributive affects to move the air & allow for less cooling, this changes airflows, it changes everything.

Ozone, is an issue, if you have whole in ozone you get ice melt, but if you have no heat escape you get more trapped heat. Lots of theories on what’s causing the ozone issues. Remember 25 years ago virtually everyone was worried that our human eye-sight would go, skin cancer like the sheep in Tierra del Fuego, now we find Ozone holes closing but the ambient temperature is heating, another scare?

Ocean Surface Temps, enormous issue & many things can cause this, greenhouse affect isn’t the only one. The resultant being ocean surface temps means we have more heat in those regions, changes everything. And mind you these are only three alternatives to the global warming (caused by mankind) theory, there’re in actual fact nearly twenty possible or plausible explanations & still we’re only talking 1.5 degrees over a fifty year period.

Please take this into consideration & dump the doom & gloom motif, it’s not healthy for that level of stress over nothing. I certainly hope this article is of interest & that is has propelled thought. The goal is simple; to help you in your quest to be the best in 2007. I thank you for reading my many articles on diverse subjects, which interest you.

Living Green

January 1st, 2008 largie Posted in A Green Home and A Green Life | No Comments »

Today, more than ever before, we as residents of this planet have the responsibility to safeguard the earth so that there will be one left for our children. If this move doesn’t start in the home then it may never gather the momentum that it needs. There is more. There’re a number of eco-friendly technologies & developments designed specifically for homes & it is time that we investigated some of them & what they bring to the table.

Perhaps the best known innovations, or at least the most commonly see, are things like low-flow toilets, solar heating & energy efficient appliances. There is more. These developments have come a long way in past years & were some of the original “green home” products. There is more. They helped to form the basis of what would become a revolution in home building & in the way we think about the construction of a home. One of the newest ways of thinking about “green homes” is the idea  of thinking about a home as a system unto itself… That is that in altering or changing one aspect of a home it’s impossible not to affect other parts of the system. This systems is comprised of five, sometimes 6 distinct systems if there is a fireplace(s).

There are some really exciting things happening in the world of “green Homes.” People are discovering new ways to drastically reduce their monthly energy bills on an ongoing basis. There is more. This is all part of a move by home owners & real estate professionals to show that there is an alternative to our reliance on forms of energy that are both detrimental to our environment & non-renewable. Eventually we will all have to consider these new ways of supplying power to our homes as we’re leaving a trail of devastation in our wake in a ecological sense. And so… So far so good. What kind of planet are we leaving behind for the next generations? One that is devoid of clean water & organic foods? One that is getting hotter every summer & colder every winter? One that is so polluted that we can not ever hope to clean the air that we breathe? It is not an attractive prospect & it will be our children that have to deal with the results.

Why is Alternative Energy Good?

January 1st, 2008 largie Posted in Energy and Alternatives | No Comments »

Why is alternative energy good for our environment? Alternative energy is classified as a clean energy that produces little to none of the hazardous emissions that come from other energy sources like burning coal or wood.

One of the most commonly asked questions from some one just learning about alternative energy benefits would be, ‘Why is alternative energy good for us?’ The answer is simple, alternative energy may be the only way to produce energy in the future… Fossil Fuels such as coal or natural gas are limited to what’s already available. How much we can mine out from deep within the Earth plays a big factor in how long we will be easily able to use these fossil fuels. Generations to come may need to use alternative energy if all of the fossil fuels are gone.

If we run out of fossil fuels, we will have to use some sort of alternative energy produced from the wind, the sun or from water power. These energy sources can easily be replenished in a short amount of time. Fossil fuels like coal & natural gas can not actually be replaced. Once these sources are depleted they’re gone from our Earth.

Why is alternative energy good in *some* cases but not in others? Alternative energy can not actually be stored up in large amounts to provide energy when there is no sun or no wind. Fossil fuels like coal & wood can be stockpiled to cover the energy needs of the people for a long period of time.

Why is alternative energy good for people in remote locations? People who select to build their homes in remote locations can benefit from using solar power as an alternative to paying for electric lines to be run all the way to them. These homes are thought to be off the grid. This just means that they produce enough energy from solar panels to run their house independent from any electric company.

Alternative energy is a great alternative to fossil fuels but it does have a downside to it… We need to further our research for alternative energy sources & how they can be utilized over a wide scale. The need to no longer mine coal & cut down trees to fuel our electric plants will be realized with new ways to use alternative energy & make it available on a wider scale.
