Would an automotive alternator (specificly GM) operate in a wind generator application without charging field?

I have details to build a wind generator which from what I see, the field gets no power and the regulator is not used. Wiring goes from the hot lead at the back of the unit and a ground from the case to an inverter to convert to 110 V AC. Is it even remotely More >
